Our club is involved in a variety of projects that involve fundraising, community service, and assisting children locally and worldwide. Below are the projects in which we are currently involved:
Our club was responsible for organizing and raising support for the Kiwanis Miracle League at Principal Park! The Miracle League gives children with special needs the ability to play in league organized baseball teams. It's a blast! Go visit the Miracle League site: http://kiwanismiracleleague.org/
Kiwanians are responsible for picking up those Red Barrels you see at the grocery store. Every time you put food items into those barrels, we make sure they are distributed to hungry families.
As a part of the Nebraska-Iowa District of Kiwanis, all of the projects endorsed by the district are being supported locally. See the specific projects under "Committees" listings for Feeding Hungry Children and Young Children: Priority One. We’re hosting food collection drives that we call “Sack Saturdays” to stock the shelves at the Des Moines Area Religious Council’s local food pantry. We’re encouraging the spread of Red Barrels to even more collection sites around the city. And we’re just getting started.
Examining subject of food insecurity, particularly for children. Local projects are based on the childhood hunger projects endorsed by the NE-IA District.
